Progressive rock in Belgium has always been a confidential genre. Machiavel were probably the only musicians that produced 3 or 4 albums of real progressive rock in the 7O's veine. But they came almost 8 years after King Crimson, Genesis or Yes. Some band filled a niche with Chamber prog or a mix between Avant-prog and Experimental. I think about Cos or Finnegans Wake. Nevertheless Belgium produced also quality Neo-prog bands like Now, Ken's Novel, Mind Games during the 8O's and 9O's and recently Neo Prophet. Bands like Julverne, Univers Zero or Cro-Magnon have connections with Ange's music style. Many bands are unclassifiable but produced at least 1 excellent album. I think about Madelgaire, Foggy Stuff, Pazop ... May I tell you some words about Quantum Fantay which play a quality Space Rock ala Ozric Tentacles, Ghiribizzi which deserve an amazing Italian style progressive rock, Pacebo which gave us beautiful Electro Jazz & Jazz rock albums in the mid 7O's.
I'd like to talk to you about a marvelous club where many Belgian bands came on stage. Just have a look at the program here : Spirit of 66.
